Self Discipline Ideas

Sofia’s Investigative Sketches

Investigative sketches are quick and loose. It is meant to use sketches to understand a problem and analyze the context, structure and elements relevant to the project.

Sofia has this incredible skill of visualizing her thinking process when she came to my first-year Industrial design studio. For the five projects we had this semester, she took visual notes and made 164 pages of investigative sketches in her notebook to map out her thinking process. It takes self-discipline and good time management skills. I consider those analytic sketches are the soul of an ideation process, which lays down a strong foundation for design iterations.
